2017 Buick Riviera Review

Buick is currently trying to become something more than just an average luxury car manufacturer so they started to release very impressive concept cars which at this point it seems that most of them will actually become production models. One of these cars is the 2017 Buick Riviera which is expected to become their first rear wheel drive car in a very long time. The car will be based on GM’s own Alpha platform and it will get improved or new engines over what it currently available on most of their other cars.

Interior of the new Buick Riviera

On the inside, the 2017 Buick Riviera will be a four seats car and unlike what most people said, it will offer four luxurious individual seats in order to provide its passengers perfect comfort. On top of that, the car will be better equipped than most of its siblings so even the base model will come with a lot of features such as automatic climate control, a navigation and infotainment system, leather upholstery with an upholstered dashboard, steering wheel and even roof lining.

Both the front and rear seats will be cooled and heated individually and the best part is that there are going to be very few options to choose from which means the car will come fully equipped as standard.

2017 Buick Riviera Exterior Design

The exterior is still unknown but considering that Buick already released back in 2013 a concept car, it is safe to assume that their upcoming model will borrow at least a few design features from it.

The long hood and coupe-like roof will likely be carried over to the production model while the general shape will make it look more like a grand tourer, similar to what Aston Martin is doing in Europe. The front end will get the usual Buick traits while at the back we may see a center mounted exhaust to differentiate it from the rest.

Engine option of the new 2017 Riviera

Under the hood of the car we are likely going to see a couple of different engines and this is because Buick will have to cut corners in order to meet the $50,000 price tag. The base model of the 2017 Buick Riviera is going to get a 3.6 liter naturally aspirated V6 good for around 320 horsepower and 285 lb-ft of torque. While it may not sound all that impressive, it should be enough to provide the car great performance on the highways as well as great fuel consumption.

The option will come in the form of a slightly more impressive 3 liter twin-turbocharged V6 which has been in the works for a long time now. This has been rumored to provide the car as much as 400 horsepower and around 450 lb-ft of torque which would be very impressive considering that it will likely use less fuel than the 3.6 liter V6.

Both of them will come with rear wheel drive and a 10 speed automatic as standard but the twin-turbocharged model is also expected to get an optional all wheel drive system which will allow it to compete with most other European 2 door luxury coupes.

2017 Buick Riviera Release Date and Price

The release date for the new model has been set for the end of 2016 and the car will likely go into production around a year after that. The price, while unknown at this point, will likely hover around $50,000, a high price considering the ATS, a similarly equipped model, costs at least $10,000 less than it.

This is because the Riviera will be a personal luxury car and it will provide a lot more than its direct competitors, both in terms of raw performance and comfort. The only problem we see with the car is that Buick may decide not to build it which would surely impact their sales negatively.
